These Dry Bones

(3) And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest. (4) Again he said unto me Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. (Ezekiel 37:3-4 KJV)

May I ask you a question? How do you deal with the dry bones in your life? Our dry bones represents anything in our lives that may appear to be dead. Whether it’s a relationship, finances, health issues even visions and dreams. A dry bone can be anything that appears to have no life. Notice that I said that it appears to have no life. In this chapter the Lord leads the Prophet Ezekiel in the spirit to the midst (middle) of the valley of dry bones. I want for you to take note that if you go back and read verse one that it mentions that he was carried in the spirit of the Lord. Meaning that he wasn’t physically there but rather in the spirit. Another example that we can use of being led in the spirit was in Matthew 4 when Jesus was lead of the spirit to be tempted of the devil. I needed to point this out because anytime we’re faced with being tempted to give up or when we’re faced with the challenge of either believing God’s promises or our situation. It will first happen in the spirit and in the mind. How we look at our situation determines how we speak to it. In verse one it says and sat me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones. Now the valley represents a low place. It can represent things such as anxiety and depression, addictions such drug and alcohol or pornography. Your valley can represent broken relationships and shattered dreams. It can represent unemployment or sickness in our bodies. Our valley is anything that we may struggle with or if I’m to be honest it’s those things where we wonder does it ever get better. The scripture says and sat him down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones. Which shows that he may have been there for a while. He was in a seated position and all around him was nothing but bones. I want for you to get this he was in a position where he couldn’t really see the situation for what it was. All he could see was the valley of bones.

(3) And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.

So now that Ezekiel is in the midst of a valley of dry bones. The Lord ask him this question. Can these bones live? In other words he wanted to know even though I have you in the middle of a valley of bones. Do you see any life in them? Some of us are in situations where it appears to be dead. Every where we turn all we see is hopelessness and sometimes despair. When the Lord asked Ezekiel can these bones live. I want for you to note his response. O Lord God, thou knowest. It’s a response that we often give when if we’re honest to admit we’re not sure if there is life in our situation. It’s what I would consider a safe answer. You’re not speaking either life or death. It was more of a God it’s up to you type of answer.

(4) Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

So now the Lord instructs Ezekiel to prophesy to these dry bones. The word prophesy means to say that a specific thing will happen in the future. I want for you to get this. We can prophesy either good or bad into our lives. What we speak will manifest itself  in the future. Whether it is good or bad. This is why it is imperative that we don’t allow what we see today affect our tomorrow. There is a scripture in proverbs 18 that says Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof ( Proverbs 18:21 KJV). So we know that there is power in what we speak. What we speak shows God what we believe. Earlier when Ezekiel responded O Lord God, thou knowest is true. However, God wants to know do you see life in these bones. Do you see hope in your situation? Do you see life past the depression and past the abuse. Do you see hope past the addictions and broken relationships? If you want for your situation to change then you have to prophesy to it. The world calls it the Law of Attraction but biblically speaking we’re to call those things which be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Ezekiel was in the midst of dry bones but he had to speak as though there was life in the bones. Bones in the Bible can symbolise both death and life. It can represent the hope of life after death. It’s how we speak to it which will determine whether we walk in victory or in defeat.

If you’re wondering if there is really power in the tongue. Remember that God spoke this world into existence. In Psalm it says for he spake and it was done, he commanded and it stood fast. (Psalm 33:9 KJV). If God can speak this entire world into existence. Then surely we can speak life into our dry bones. I implore you that no matter what situation that you may find yourself in. That you will always speak life into it. Remember that death and life are in the power of the tongue!

God’s blessings,

Aqua.

God bless you for explaining this scripture so well. I was so uncertain about my career as a journalist. I found my student press card which expired few years ago, I prayed over it and randomly placed it in my Bible. I wanted God to show me if there is still hope for me as a journalist. When I opened my Bible a day later, I found the press card in the Book of Ezekiel and my eyes caught this exact chapter – (Ezekiel 37:3-4) . I spoke life into my situation and I am trusting Jesus for a miracle! God bless you so much.

It was no coincidence that you “randomly” placed your press card where you did. Our God knew what you needed and he knew that you would begin to speak life into your situation. There really is power in what we speak. I mean look you have an awesome blog. Whether you realize it or not you’re living your journalism dream. I believe that there is more for you.
